Shinyo Maru
The SS Shinyo Maru was a Hell Ships (former Japanese Cargo Steamer, used for Transport POW’s to other Camps) sunk on Sep. 7, 1944.
The SS Shinyo Maru, sailed from Manila on Aug. 20, 1944 for Japan in Convoy, seven other vessels, including two torpedo boats, two tankers, and four other medium and small cargo ships. This ship was sunk by the American submarine USS Paddle with two torpedoes, east of Mindanao, on Sep. 7, 1944. There were 750 POWs aboard – 668 died, of them 5 US Serviceman. 82 men survived this sinking.
Clay was born on July 26, 1920 in Gunnison, Sanpete County, Utah.

Clay Rosenvall was KIA when the Shinyo Maru was Torpedoed and was shot defending himself, on Sep. 7, 1944, he is honored with the POW Medal, Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Word War 2 Victory Medal .
Clay is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
