Gordon was KIA when the USS Brooks was hit by a Kamikaze at Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, on Jan. 6, 1945,  is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Gordon is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
