Hokusen MARU

The Hokusen Maru was a Hell Ships.

The Hokusen Maru, sailed from Manila on Jan. 1,  1944 for Japan.

Onboard 1100 POW for different POW Camps located in Japan.

 

Davao – Small port city on southeast coast of Mindanao. The POW camp was located some ten miles northwest of the port. Camp was closed 6 June 1944 and the POWS were sent first to Cebu on the Yashu Maru. In Cebu, they were transferred to the Singoto Maru and moved to Manila and into Bilibid.

But Capt. William G. Allen was already in Camp. Shinjuku in Tokyo.

 

William is born approx. on Sep. 12, 1917 in California.

 

Mother, …… Allen.

 

William enlisted the service in California with service number #19000706 .

 

William died as a POW in Camp, Shinjuku, Tokyo on March 26, 1945, he is honored with a POW Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

William is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.

Bataan Death March

(April 9, 1942)

Stanley Aaron became a POW an walked (60 miles) the Bataan Death March (70.000 pow), Many walked this march and many died (aprox.600, lack of nutrition and water) to Prison Camps and was send to Camp Cabanatuan, became part of a work detail.

 

Stanley was born in 1918 in, Martinsville, Virginia.

Reid enlisted the Army Air Force in Virginia with serial # O-389272.

 

Reid died (executed) as a POW in Cp. Cabananutan on Jan. 21, 1945,Second Lieutenant Reid Stanley Aaron is honored with a  Purple Heart, POW Medal, American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Reid is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines

The Imperial Japanese began their Invasion in the Philippines on 8 Dec 1941.

Sergeant Albison became a POW and was imprisoned at Pow Camp Rangoon POW camp in Myanmar (Burma).

 

Norman was born  on Nov. 4, 1922 in  Camden, Camden County, New Jersey.

 

Father, Norman Albinson.

Mother, Alice Albinson.

Sister, Bernice Albinson.  

 

Norman entered  the service from Pennsyslvania in Dec. 5, 1942 with service number # 13176804.

 

 

Norman died as a Pow in a Camp Rangoon, Birma from various diseases on Aug. 18, 1944, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Air Medal, POW Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

Norman is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.

Norman’s remains were recovered in 1946 from a burial at the Rangoon POW camp.

His remains, along with others, were being transported from Rangoon to Calcutta, India by C-47B #43-48308. However this C-47 crashed on this trip on May 17, 1946.

His remains were not recovered from this crash.

Historical Note: The Japanese Army “did not” report that they had a prison camp at Rangoon to the U.S. Military until after the war.
