Norvell was KIA/MIA when on the Bomb run a Bomb exploded under the airplane with  causing severe damage, they wanted return to Okinawa but crashed in the East China Sea on 17 July 1945,  he is honored with a Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Good Combat Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Norvell is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
